Maa Sarala – Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge

The Maa Sarala temple is located at Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha. This is a very old temple of Odisha. It is believed that the Goddess Sarala is the divine spirit of two Goddess namely Maa Durga and Maa Matangi. The idol of the Goddess is built of stone in which there are 8 hands and keeping her feet on lion. The arms of Goddess Sarala hadSword,Trident, Manuscript,Veena,Bow,Bell, Disk and the head of the demon Buffalo King.

History of Maa Sarala temple

Maa Sarala temple is built during the 8th century. But at present the old temple is ruined and only Lord Ganesh is worshipped there.  But on the occasions Goddess are taken out to the old temple for worshipping. Till now the practice of sacrifice is done and in eve of Dussehra a goat is butchered and offer to Goddess. On the eve of Dola Purnima theGoddess Sarala is worshipped with other deities of locality which shows that Maa Sarala is the fusion of deities.

Tourism in Maa Sarala temple

As it is one of the oldest temple of Odisha many worshippers from the state visit this place through the year to seek blessings from the Goddess Sarala. As the place remain crowded through the year many small lodges,restaurants and small markets had come up in that place. Tourist had a splendid time out there without much hassle.
