Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, Ratnagiri- The Diamond Triangle of Odisha

Buddhism comes to Odisha during the 7th century. It’s believed that Lord Buddha who is main preacher of Buddhism never visited Odisha but it is bought to Odisha by visit of Hiuen Tsang. Buddhism continued its influence till 15th century during which many Stupas and monarchs were built which we can find now. The Buddhism findings become more prominent when scientist got proof of it in excavating Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, Ratnagiri. Those are popularly called Diamond Tingle of Odisha.  

Tourism in Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udayagiri

Lalitgiri is situated at Mahanga Tehsil in Cuttack district. It is surrounded by Parabhadi and Landa sandstone hills. During excavation work at Lalitgiri huge stupas were unearthed. They also found a casket which has fossils of Buddha. In Lalitgiri they found four monasteries which depict the Buddhist culture. It also has different images of Lord Buddha in different meditation position. All these things were kept in museum which is constructed in Lalitgiri itself.

Ratnagiri is situated at Jajpur district of Odisha along the banks of Brahmani and Birupa river. It is also called as Jewel hill. The excavation work given the different color stones which are invaluable in it. In Ratnagiri three monarchies, several stupas also present. Different sculptures of the dancer, a royal lady , a women meditating and many more are earthen out which is kept in display.

Udaygiri is largest among the other two Buddhist places which have monasteries and stupas. After excavation work at Udayagiri numerous statues of Buddha, monarchies, Tara and many earthenware things were discovered.  These things are kept in a display for the tourist who comes from all over India and outside India.
