Devkund – The Paradise of Waterfalls in Odisha

Devkund the name itself describes its importance. Meaning of this word in Hindi and Odia is ‘the bathing spot of God and Goddesses’. It is situated in Balasore at Mayurbanj district in the state Odisha. It is a beautiful waterfall as well as a picnic spot to which thousands of people visit every day.  It’s believed that in the past area Gods and Goddesses are taking bath in the water in Devkund. Dev menace God and Goddess and Kund menace bath top, so the name of this place is according to its work that is Devkund as it’s the favourite bath place of Hindu deities.

Beauty of Devkund Waterfall

Devkund is covered in dense forest which makes it more beautiful. The tank is about 600 feet in diameter and falling from a height of 100meter. Leaving this tank there is another four tanks namely Devikund, Tailakund, Haridrakund, Bhudarkund. Those are really exciting and charming places to explore. There are five waterfalls such as Amritkund ,Ghirtakund , Haldikund, Devkund and Devikund. As there are five waterfalls it is commonly called as Panchakunda. Devkund is one of the important heritage points among them.

We can get to the source of river by climbing almost 100 steps from Devkund. After we reach at the upper portion we can see the Devi Ambika Temple. The atmosphere near to the temple is heavenly with the sound of birds and waterfalls. The forest, surroundings and waterfall at this beautiful tourist destination gives and adventurous experience to tourist.

Devkund is 85km far from Balasore district. Its location is situated at very convenient place as it is a part of Similipal forest which is most famous forest of Odisha. It is about a 75km from Panchlingeswar and 69km from Kuldiha. While going to the Devkund during your last stage of travel you will be going through a thick forest cover which is very attracting.

By Air: Bhubaneswar airport is the nearest airport to reach this place.

By Rail: Mayurbanj railway station is the best point to reach Devkund by railways.

By Road: Mayurbanj is well connected by road networks of Odisha, so it’s easy to reach Devkund by road.

Best Time to Visit Devkund Water-Fall

The best time to visit this lovely and heavenly place is from November to April.
